9 a.m. PT/ Noon ET
Speaker: Yolanda Jackson, MS, RDN, LD
Americans are living longer with baby boomers leading the way with the number of individuals reaching older age. Because of the number of individuals approaching advanced age, it’s important to educate individuals about steps they can take to encourage healthy aging. Lifestyle factors like physical activity and adequate nutrition mitigate modifiable risk factors for many chronic conditions like diabetes, obesity, hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases. Further, the aforementioned chronic conditions are risk factors for Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias which is becoming more prevalent in African Americans and non-Hispanic whites. Nutrition plays a vital role in health especially as we age. Some foods provide more health benefits than others and some that are protective of our health. During this presentation, I will speak about the impact of age on health, nutritional strategies for cognitive health, explore the components of the Mediterranean – DASH Diet Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay, or the MIND diet and discuss modifiable risk factors for Alzheimer's disease.
